In a recent study, commissioned by the European Union, the port of Livorno was excluded from the top forty ports in Europe.A local newspaper, the “Corriere di Livorno”, has closed for good. Started in September 2007, it never had a sizable share of readers.
A referendum opposing the location of the new hospital took place last Sunday, but only a 20% of the voters showed up. The quorum was not met, so the new hospital will be built near Montenero.

It is an era of bad news everywhere, I think, caused by the global crisis. There are also bad decisions, be they national or local. I think we have to re-adjust, to start to think otherwise, may be, I do not know but there are not many good signs anywhere.
Hard times are everywhere these days.
Some tough news. But, you can choose to be glum or you can choose to be upbeat, and upbeat feels better.
I agree with Jacob. Times are hard all over at least we all have one another to share what is beautiful in our cities.
It doesn't seem like a good day in Livorno!
Livorno is a beautiful port city. How could it be excluded???
The world is in chaos.

Neh neh, what does the EU know, anyway. Thanks to you, VP, we know the truth, that the Port of Livorno is the best.
@ Dina - The worst thing is that the study is well done and they are probably right...
Hope you'll have a brighter post tomorrow. I'm not in ze mood for such bad news.
About ports: the French dockers have been on strike so often over such a long period of time that they have literally made French ports no-no zones, with boats preferring Belgium or the Netherlands...
What a depressing post today! Seems that crisis is not over yet!
So sorry for these news!

Lots of changes coming.
Hmmmm. I guess it's like this pretty much everywhere these days. Hopefully all the changes will somehow lead to something much better :-)
Are you only the 41st port now? Sorry that you got so much bad news lately. I still like Livorno though!!!
The middle pic is your best choice to go with the bad news. The empty newspaper billboard is so powerful! Well done, VP.
