June 2 is the date of birth of the Italian Republic: in 1946, with a referendum, the Italians voted to choose the republic over the monarchy.Local ceremonies started with a jump of paratroopers carrying the Italian flag and the standard of the City of Livorno. The six parachutists landed safely in “Piazza della Repubblica”

These are wonderful shots...I would guess the city of Livorno might wish to have them for their archives...don't you think?
Can't imagine jumping out of an airplane...I don't like to be up on a step ladder!
Love your photos VP. This certainly is a victory of independence worth celebrating.
The flags are so colorful too.
Congratulations! These are wonderful pictures. I love these kind of festivities.
This is a terrific series of photos to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of the republic.
A day to celebrate Italy!
Great pictures. Those old guys really jumped out of a plane?? Good for them!
So your 2nd of June is like the 14th of July?
It doesn't look like there is a big crowd, especially in the band photo.
Or like our 4th of July.
Always a good time for a parade.
I am glad all the jumpers landed where they were supposed to.
Excellent pictures. MB
@ Dina - They usually jump out of a helicopter. The older guy on the left is something like a chief-instructor and is always the last to land, after some kind of acrobatic.
We still have monarchy in Norway. (http://kongehuset.no), so I can`t really imagen what a day like this would be like. Looks like a big event !and these brave people jumping out of a plane....landing not on afield but in the city. Wow!!
Is this a thing you celebrate all over the country?
So Happy Birthday to Republic:)
Interesting series, I like especially the first shot:)
Happy Birthday Italy! I wonder how long before the King is history in Sweden.
How cool to see those paratroopers, thanks for this wonderful post.Beautiful homage! :)

Happy Republic day! Looks like some great festivities! I'll probably never jump out of a plane with a parachute!
Fantastic photos! Especially like the first one with the Italian flag! ;D
And it looks like everyone had fun celebrating.
Great coverage of the event!
Top photo: Well, that's a novel way to fly a flag. What fun to celebrate an important national day. Thanks for the information and the photos.
Well, auguri! Was a quiet day for me, as I have many clients in Italy. One of the too rare days when I can actually read the newspaper at work!
