Trofeo D'Alesio

Trofeo D'Alesio 2010I am not an early riser, so when I arrived at the “Porto Mediceo” the “Trofeo Gaetano D'Alesio”, the first rowing competition of the season, was almost finished. I barely managed to watch the last race, the one with the ten-rower “gozzi”.Trofeo D'Alesio 2010The boat of the quarter “Venezia” won the chronometer race.Trofeo D'Alesio 2010The boats of the “rioni” (quarters) “Salviano” and “Fabbricotti”.Trofeo D'Alesio 2010The boats of “Ovo Sodo” (Hard boiled egg) and “San Jacopo”.Trofeo D'Alesio 2010The boats of “San Marco - Pontino” and “Borgo Cappuccini”.Trofeo D'Alesio 2010The four-oars “gozzetta” with the ladies from “Salviano”.

This is wonderful. The collected images really capture the energy and power of the race. I would never have known you hadn't been there since the crack of dawn, recording the efforts of the competitors.

I find this all very fascinating. It's not something one would see in the States, so far as I know...the competitive spirit is invigorating. This is the first time I've seen women involved. If it's like golf, I'd rather watch the women play than the men!

Excellent photos, as usual, VP!

It looks like great exercise on a nice day (the sun finally came out!) - and I love the black and white ship behind the rowers in the last pic. Nice shots.

Congratulations to Venezia! I'm rooting for Ovo Sodo to win something — just because I love the name. ;)

I remember this from last year. Again a great photoreportage and the first one... redolent of la dolce vita, maybe after the race...

Stroke! Stroke! I want to be the coxswain.

Seattle has several races a year and the universities have teams. MB

The first photo is a nice contrast to all that energy and effort in the others.
