Canon PowerShot SX50 HS

Somewhere in my junk room there is an old and heavy shoulder bag containing the slowly decaying bodies of two SLRs and a half dozen of their lenses. I feel no nostalgia for those costly and clumsy contraptions I once loved and revered: with the advent of the digital era I am a born again photagrapher, who now enjoys the practicality and the convenience of bridge cameras. Every few years I buy a new model of the same type and this summer was time to replace my Canon PowerShot SX20 with an SX50 HS. I know that some of you will turn up your nose at this choice, but I consider myself a lazy and not very demanding amateur.
Town Hall weather vane, piazza del Municipio, Livorno
To test my new zoom lens I am taking a shot at the weather vane on the top of the Town Hall turret.
View of the Old Harbour or Pamiglione, Livorno
The wide angle shows us a fishing boat in the “Darsena Vecchia” (Old Harbour), also known as “Pamiglione”.

It would be interesting to see Town Hall from both a wide angle and close up to gauge get a sense of lens' versatility.

Each photographer has their own preference. You create some excellent photographs, so just keep shooting!

I agree with Michelle.

Your images are very crisp. I am probably behind the times using my DSLR, but, hey, I kind of know how to use it so it is the one for me. Glad you have one you like. Whatever we use, they get us out and about looking for interesting photos. That is what counts.

I guess all of us of a certain age have our old big and heavy cameras stashed in a back corner of the closet, never to be used again even if they still work.
Like on your weather vane, may your new HS be FIDES for you for many years.

You have perfect weather to test a new camera and the two shots are wonderful.

Actually, most of the photos posted in the last four weeks have been shot with the new camera...

Happy shooting! I'm looking to expand my camera equipment with a nice zoom lens in the near future :)

I think, SX20 or SX50 is not so important, the photos are mostly made with the eyes and with the head. I'm sure you make good pictures also with a "cartoon camera".

They do feature a very impressive zoom these cameras, enjoy it.

I'm not a very demanding amateur either. Great shots! Enjoy your new toy, VP.
