This is the gate, practically a caisson, of the small dry dock, built alongside the “Canale dei Francesi” (Frenchmen's Canal). You can easily see the level of the water on the outer side and the dry part on the right. The boats enters the dock when it is level with the water outside. After closing the gate, the water inside is pumped out, leaving the boat, properly supported, on the bottom of the dry dock.

Thanks VP, I don't think I have ever seen this. Thanks for showing me.
It operates much like locks at a canal. Informative as always. VP.
I like the colors in the first shot. That is quite a boat!
Nice little boat someone has there. Nice shots VP.
nice shots...great blue and yellow color in first and wow what a yacht
What we call a 'forme de radoub' in French which always sounds extremely strange to me...
That boat is so elegant. Thanks for showing the difference between the level of the water by the pictures and the boat, it's very interesting!

Yes, it's really interesting. Nice post, VP.
Ando bastante ocupado y sin tiempo... Pero siempre un placer pasar por tu casa, y echar un ratito con tus cosas. Estupendas las cosas que nos dejas.
Saludos y un abrazo enorme.
So smart how that works.
