When I was younger the “Teatro Lazzeri”, a movie theater, hadn't a very nice reputation and was quite seedy and already run-down. It has been closed and abandoned for years when finally reopened as “Edison Bookstore”.The street level hall is roomy and spectacular, surrounded by a gallery with a cafe. The basement gets even some natural light from above. The “libreria” is open 9-24 on weekdays, 10-24 on Sundays. The bookstore opened in December 2008 and is a welcome ray of light in an area almost deserted at night.

I love bookstores. This one is amazing.
What an attractive bookstore!
What a wonderful place. Excellent images from inside.
What a fabulous repurposing of space. I hope the effort put into revitalizing this place spreads out across the neighborhood.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle seems to be an art in some areas, such as this bookstore which is now using beautifully a once unattractive space. It is so well-stocked! And, it looks like there are a number of tables and chairs. When provided, a bookstore is nirvana.
Glad the place has come back to a better life.
Must be a great place to spend half the night.
Don't let me loose in there. I'd spend the day there and end up with a huge credit card bill of books that for the most part, I wouldn't be able to read!!!
It's a place for me - I would spend hours there:)
What a great revitalization project! I love bookstores and this is gorgeous. If the books weren't mostly in Italian, I can spend hours in here. With breaks at the wonderful galleria-cafe. I like the delicate hanging lights too. I've never seen anything like it yet.
I love the ray of light...look lovely & welcome !!!
I never stop in a bookstore. It is usually a half-day affair.
Wow! What a rebirth! Your photos capture a bookstore that beckons you.
I could stay all day in a bookstore or library. this one is great. I love the use of the balcony. Do you see me there with my stack of books? MB
I love the atmosphere of those bookstores, this one is modern and elegant.I would love to visit and shop there!

Is that a chandelier in the bookstore? I absolutely love this bookstore! Many people must enjoy their time there :D
Wow this place is huge!
This looks very nice and with lots of "air and light".
I work part time in a bookshop, and can spend quite a bit of time also looking around..... when I am outside Stavanger.
Thanks for your update/your comment today on my posting. If you take a look at this http://www.baroniet.no/en/index.php
I think this might be where the yacht is.
I will look out for "her" if she will arrive here.
Have a nice evening!
I like this very much! Much better than a theater! I could spend hours (days?) wandering through that store!
Nice indoor photography! Sparkling!
Great reuse of the building! It looks fantastic now. Wonderful shots, VP!
Such a come-back. From forgotten cinema to an inviting bookstore. There's hope!

So now we know. Good Night from Stavanger.
I don't know if I've ever seen a movie theatre turned into something else. It would double the fun of the bookstore. How delightful to browse and prowl.
