Opposite the Central Post Office, still in “Via Cairoli”, we find the “Palazzo della Galleria” (Palace of the Galleria) built in 1927 by the “Istituto Nazionale Immobiliare”.
The galleria was originally intended as a link between “Via Cairoli” and the area of the “Mercato Centrale”, but it never really worked and now the space is a glorified hall with a café.
By the way, our friend Stefano took care of the recent restoration process of this galleria.

Kudos to Stefano, the man of many talents and contacts! Great job; the building looks magnificent! Have you eaten at the cafe?
That huge building is only used as a cafe?
The building is beautiful--looking much older than 1927 but what would I know? MB
Nice, the see-through aspect in the first photo.
What a cool building. I like the colors. And the color is echoed in the doorway. Is the upstairs not much used, either?
Very elegant buidinng and thanks for Stefano:)
Have a great weekend!
Bravo Stefano! I love the first shot, how do you call those two round windows that aren't windows? I love how one is drawn into one arch and then the next.
@ Jacob - I live nearby so it's easier to eat at home...
@ MB - The cafe uses the galleria. Most of the building is occupied by a bank and an insurance company.
@ ciel - This whole arch is called serliana in Italian (I think it's serlienne in French), or Palladian window.
The red shutters are so typical of Italy! Love to see them on beautiful old buildings. The first italian city I visited was Bologna and I still remember my 'wows'! :-)
Love the pink shades in the windows :D
