Inside De Amicis

One of the first things you notice inside the “Edmondo De Amicis” elementary school is this garish in & out box.The long hallway of the first floor receives plenty of light from the windows on the backyard while, on the right, the classrooms face a small enclosed garden and the street.A sort of monument to the caretakers proudly stands on a shelf. The works of the kids are usually the most colorful thing you can see in an elementary school.A problem with a school built around one hundred years ago, is that the gym has two nice columns just in the middle, to support the floor above.

What is the purpose of the in and out box?

Che fotoreportaggio interessante!
Ma sopratutto mi piacciono i 'capolavori' dei bambini :-)

I'm amazed at how colorful and clean this place appears! The floors sparkle!

Love that "custodial" doll!

What a great old place. I think it would be an interesting feeling to return to one of my old schools. I like the look of the hall way.

We would never had an old school like that in our part of the world, they like to build new schools after using them for only 30 to 40 years.

I wish I went to school here. It is beautiful both inside and out.

I love the school kids' art - it makes me smile!
Our 3 daughters' art work has become the "Hagen Art Gallery" in our back hallway.

So glad you went in and out to show us your school.
The corridor looks strangely like the one in my own school in Chicago, built in 1922.
That's funny about the columns in the gym.
The school is producing good artists and thoughtful young people who care about the caretaker.

In Norway "Montessori" and "Reggio Emilia" kinder gardens and schools are well known...
I liked the artistic and colorful drawings! Interesting to see the building from inside too. Thanks for sharing:-)

The first and last captions were funny - I see the problem with the columns! And I agree with Jacob - it's much more colorful and clean-looking than I'd expect to find here - and interesting, too.

Have a nice week!

I like the little caretaker doll and the drawings make me wonder what their theme was. They're either onion-domed towers or candles with flames. I find it fascinating because their interpretations are similar yet different and very well done.

Glad to see the posts are well-padded at least. I guess there are disadvantages.

The hallway is spotlessly clean and so shiny!! The childen's art, of course, is the highlight of any visit, I'd bet. I suppose it's wise not to take photos of the children, but I'd love to see some of them!

PS. The box looks like you're practicing for April Theme Day-red!

All I can remember from my elementary school is the smell;and that's not good.

I don't think the in- and out-box is garish at all. It's bright and colorful - perfect for an elementary school! I also like the monuments to the cleaning staff, although they're a bit Big Brother-ish. Cute!!

It might be old, but it has been kept in wonderful condition! I love the kids' artwork.

The kids' works make for such a cool photo, but I'm intrigued by the red entrata/uscita box...

Looks warm and welcoming. The first one would have been a nice entry for the April 1st CDP theme. The kids drawings are very cute, I wonder what they were trying to illustrate.

That's clean!

You're right - the kids' work is fantastic. Love that in and out box - wouldn't be out of place in Vegas.

What a lovely post! I can almost hear the voices and screams at recess. Love the photo of the corridor.

Like Tinsie, I'm wondering what the box is for too! Great bright color though :)

The Entrata/Uscita box was for internal mail between schools, not much used lately.
