Snow came as a surprise this morning with a very strong wind. The wind almost teared up the flag of this Coast Guard boat.Visibility was quite low at moments, but the snow didn't stick. There were waves even inside the “Porto Mediceo”.The snow wasn't simply falling, but whirling around. This cat is too young to remember the last snow and was indignant at the icy affront.

That's amazing. It's 16 C and sunny in Newtown today. I imagine that this is rare weather for you? I'm glad that you went out and took pictures.
That is some surprise - not too bad since it didn't stick, eh?
I love your flag shot.
I didn't think you got snow in Livorno...but these are very dramatic photos. I could stand a little snow but I really dislike wind...it makes me nervous and edgy! I'm a wreck in a hurricane!
Love that last shot and you comment! Nice-looking kitty!
I promise it wasn't me who sent the Minnesota snow to Livorno! Really!
I love pix of ships in the snow. Nice cat also. Thanks for braving the Arctic weather to bring us another wonderful series. Strangely, your sister city also got something similar to snow yesterday. It did not come with strong wind, and in some places it was like powdery soft hail, while in other places like icy rain. For that reason, it was so strange to see snow on your blog today! The actual snow level here is about 1,000 feet this week.
P.S. Is the Alcide a pilot boat? A tender? It looks big.
Your photos give the feeling of the swirling snow. I can almost hear the flag whipping in the wind.
The cat's expression is priceless. Is that the way you felt (looked?) too? :)
wow snow! That cat face is amazing, fabulous shot! Also loved the second one, that flag, wind and snow, everything...terrific beauty!
VP, here is also so cold, I can't understand this harsh winter!
Stay warm dear friend!
hugs

Beautiful and lovely shot !!Simply beautiful !!
Snow and strong winds? That's crazy weather. How long has it been since it snowed there? I didn't even think it ever did snow in Tuscany.
What crazy weather. And what a dedicated photographer you are to go out in the wind and the swirling snow to document it. Thank you, VP.
It snowed here too! I really like the photo of the flag! Hope you're much warmer now :)
Seems that winter doesn't want to leave this year, but I wouldn't expect snow in Livorno!
Snow! That's surprising!!
This is the very reason I say March Madness. You just never know what the weather will be.
Amazing boat photos.
Poor kitty--that look on it's face tells the story.

I share the cat's viewpoint.
@ tapirgal - Alcide is a small tanker and has already appeared once in Sailors.
@ Dina - I am older than our kitty and I can remember our last serious snow, usually once every ten years.
@ Hilda - Snow falls regularly on our Apennine Mountains, where people can ski. It's quite rare along the coast, more common inland.
@ MB - You are right about March Madness: I was born in March!
Hi VP - re your question on Ocala DP: The developers of Stone Creek put in several small lakes (ponds?) which they stocked with bass. Residents (and guests) are allowed to fish in these ponds on a catch-and-release basis.
I've seen some of these bass and they are huge. Would be great fun to catch. We think our grandchildren will enjoy fishing when they come to visit us.
I believe you understand this cat very well. :) I didn't think you ever got snow in Livorno!
I've seen this on tv and couldn't believe it! Snowing in March?!?!
The first shot is my favourite.
Wow, wonderful photos - I love taking ferries. That cat does look offended.
I think the world is going upside down-too many European countries have encountered snow this year when they're not supposed to. Still love the shots.
Like your snow pictures.
Oh my. Snow in Livorno! :) Now, this winter is really behaving badly!
