This kind of huge concrete module is called Modulblock, but they look like oversized Lego bricks. They are normally used to control landslides and to strenghten embankments. These blocks were used to build the blast containment wall for the defusing of the WWII unexploded bomb found in Venezia and now they are being removed. Each block is 160 cm (5' 3") long and has a weight of two tons. Before continuing the excavation of the canal, the whole area will be scanned again to avoid other buried surprises.

Great invention; even though it feels as if 'men won't ever grow up' and still want to play with bricks.
Glad that everything seems to have gone without any damage.
Please have a good Friday.
Haha I was thinking the same as Robert, they really are 'grown up men' building blocks. As long as they do the job that they're intended for it's all good. Hope they don't find anymore nasty surprises VP. Enjoy your weekend.
They really do look like Legos. Good thing they are still in one piece.
When I first saw the pic I was shocked at how much they do look like legos. Glad they work even when they are super sized.
Glad this is behind you and nothing was damaged.
If the history was not so sad and the danger not so big, I would be laughing at this playing with Lego Duplo bricks.
Thanks for the lesson about Modulblock. Send a few over.
This area is beautiful, I like the last shot with the overview. The color of the water is wonderful!
Glad that the place is safe.

VP, these posts have been fascinating. Thank you.
Interesting document-photo, VP!
First time I see these Lego modules.
I've never seen them before! Interesting!
Really amazing! Very interesting VP. Thanks.
Was the blast successful?
