With the street already reopened to traffic, a late, defiant runner keeps going on the sidewalk for the Vivicittà 2018 race.
Con la strada già riaperta al traffico, questo corridore ritardatario ed ostinato continua sul marciapiede la sua corsa per Vivicittà 2018.

Maratona Città di Livorno

The City of Livorno Marathon took place yesterday and we had runners in the streets for a few hours.
Sadly, we also witnessed several arguments with angry motorists who resented the closed streets.

Vivicittà 2015

I didn't know much about “Vivicittà”, but yesterday I saw a lot of runners in Via Ricasoli.
This event is a spring half marathon that takes place in several Italian and also European cities. I tried to catch the runners again in another part of Livorno, but they obviously outrunned me.

The winner was Andrea Gesi (race tag 53) and the second was Federico Meini (race tag 1).

After two victories of “Venezia” in 2010 and 2011, “Ovo Sodo” (Hard boiled egg) won the “Palio Marinaro”, the most important race of our rowing season. (Picture taken on June 3 during the “Coppa Risi'atori”)

Coppa Risi'atori 2012

There were times when the right to unload an incoming vessel went to the first local longshoremen who showed up alongside the ship, before entering the port. The “prize” obviously went to the crew with the strongest rowers, and that was only the beginning of their hard work. They rowed toward the ships in almost every weather and were therefore called “risi'atori” or “risicatori”, which means risk-takers.
The “Coppa Risi'atori” celebrates every year the strenght of these men who rowed not for leisure, but to make a hard living. The race starts from the Meloria islet, about 5 km outside the port of Livorno, with the finish line in the “Darsena Nuova” of the “Porto Mediceo”.The crew of the “Venezia” was so ahead of the other boats that some of the rowers were able to raise their hands well before of the end of the race.The rowers and their support team celebrating in the waters of the “Darsena Nuova”.It is probably not a case that their “cantina” is on the “Erta dei Risicatori” (Risk Takers Slope).

As we have already seen “Venezia” won the “Coppa Risi'atori” and “Ovo Sodo” was a close second. So let's have a look at the other boats of the race: “Borgo Cappuccini”, third place.“San Jacopo”, fourth place.“Fabbricotti”, fifth place.“Salviano”, here towed away after the race, was sixth.“San Marco-Pontino”, seventh and last because “Antignano” did not take part in the race.
