I Like You a Lot

Declaration of love posters, viale Caprera, Livorno
Last August it was Yemanja, while in October it changed to this. Now it is a declaration of love of sorts: “Greta: ma te lo devo scrivere sui manifesti che mi garbi un casino??? Tommaso V.” (Greta: but have I to write it on posters that I like you a lot??? Tommaso V.)

My Name Is 5074

5074 street art, poster, Modigliani, Livorno
“Noi abbiamo dei diritti diversi dagli altri
perché abbiamo dei bisogni diversi
che ci mettono al di sopra
della loro morale”
(We have different rights from the others
because we have different needs
that put ourselves above
their moral standards)

Fifty Seventy-Four, a “street artist” who uses a numeric alias, is advertising himself with posters of an unaware Modigliani. Perhaps Amedeo should sue, but obviously can't and probably wouldn't.

Leonetto Cappiello

Cappiello, Livorno Stagione BalneareLeonetto Cappiello was born on 9 April 1875 in Livorno. He was an Italian painter and art designer who lived mostly in Paris. He is now often called “the father of modern advertising” because of his innovation in poster design.Cappiello, Bitter CampariCappiello, like other young artists, worked in way that was almost the opposite of his predecessors. He was the first artist to use bold figures popping out of black backgrounds, a startling contrast to the posters early tradition.Cappiello, Pâtes BaroniIn 1898 he moved to Paris, where his caricatures were published for the first time in the humor magazine “Le Rire”. Cappiello made his name during the poster boom of the early 20th century, with creations markedly different from the works of Jules Chéret, the leading poster artist of the time.Cappiello, Parapluies RevelCappiello died in Cannes in 1942. Over the course of his career he produced more than 530 advertising posters which surprise and delight the viewer. Today, his original posters are still collected, sold at auctions and by dealers around the world.
