Our Mercato Centrale has several doors at street level and two ramps on the sides that descend into its underground storerooms. Another way to access the storage area is a gate at water level on the canal.
Only tourists on some boat tours now use this entrance, when they make a stop to visit the building.

It looks a bit forbidding, VP. As though bodies were once shipped from there.
This suits the theme nicely, VP, as it was the building featured on your "entry" into blogging, i.e., your first post.
I guess the water level in the canal stays constant.... Nice pictures.
That's an intriguing inside shot!
I would choose this road less traveled by for entry to the Mercato.
Very impressive entrance!
A very singular entrance, good choice for this theme day!
I like the geometry of this classical building.
Wonderful shots VP.
You've caught the theme for sure. Inviting and warm scene.
I imagine it must have been a very busy entrance back in the day and for some reason it reminds me of traitor's gate...
what a grand building to sit on the water like that...something we don't see here!
I'm with Julie, the inside out shot is a bit forboding but great photo for the theme.

How wonderful that you also have a shot from inside. Excellent!
