The statue of Francesco Domenico Guerrazzi in his namesake square, a work by the Livornese sculptor Lorenzo Gori. The inauguration of the monument took place on 17 May 1885.
Here is an image of the original poster of the event, obtained thanks to my colleague Claudio.

The sculptor posed him in an unusual position, didn't he? I read the linked article. Impressive that he was both a writer and a politician.
Nice statue.
The poster is a work of art by itself. The dressed and reading donkey got me to googling what that could mean.
The two together bring so much more sense to me.
I like the statue and even more the original poster.
Great post! Thank you.
The gent had quite a life... The poster is fantastic!
He appears to be deep in thought. How super to have the original publication about him.
