The street what was once called “Via Greca” (Greek Street), at least since 1784, because of the many shops owned by Greeks.Plaque of via Generale Enrico Tellini already via Greca, LivornoIn 1923 the Italian general Enrico Tellini, on a mission from the League of Nations to oversee a boundary dispute between Greece and Albania, was murdered with his staff near the border, presumably by Greek nationalists. This event escalated quickly in a diplomatic crisis leading to the Corfu incident ... and to the street name change.

I like the shot through the arch. Hmmm. Shot because of a boundary dispute. Some things never change.

Very well done. I like the photos and your words.

After I was hacked I had to give up my old user name and the blogs that went with it. My Birds Blog was among the give-ups.

So this is the new birds blog and I hope you can come visit. Birds Birds Birds and Birds

A tragic reason for the name change.

Sometimes the back of the hotel is more interesting than the front, I see.

Enrico Tellini fight for the Albanians and it's not fair to be in our days a Greek street ! War for territory will be always even in the future !
