The “Capitana” (Captainess) bastion barely survived some Allied bombs hitting German ammunitions stored inside.
The walls were somewhat “grafted” together after the war, but the damage is visible and the bastion is still off-limits for visitors. This is the part of the fortress you see better from the terrace of the former “Piazza dei Grani”.

Wow! I'm surprised they kept this up after the war. I'm glad they did though, I love the red brick.
She's still grand to see. We have old forts that seem to be magically held together but not like this one!
It looks like someone glued it together! I'm glad it's held together...it's a lovely piece of history :D

I really like all the plants growing through the cracks in this old fort. Its design reminds me of a ship somehow, especially in your first photo.
The stitching up of her wounds gives a sad feeling.
