After detecting some smoke from the windows of this apartment, the Fire Brigade was promptly called by some passers-by. We are in the quarter of New Venice, you can see near the front of the fire engine the facade of the Palace of the Marble Columns. The firemen wear their self contained breathing apparatus. They begin to climb the ladder to go up in the bucket. From the window they flush what seems to be the main fire.Ready to go inside to check if someone is still in the apartment. It seems that nobody was there, so the worst part is now over.

Very good documentary shots!-
(But of course also very sad for the people living there..... )
Firefighters to the rescue again! We have all volunteers here - how about in Livorno?
Great photos! Hope everybody and everything is okay.
Excellent photographs, VP. Maybe you should be the official fire department photographer...show them these and you'll be hired, I guarantee it!
Drama abounds. Glad no one was hurt. Fire is so devastating. One of the things I remember about the Navy - the fear of fire. And we had to learn firefighting in boot camp - not fun.
These guys deserve all the credit they can get and more!
Great job on the part of the firemen and the photographer.
Hey, that's a great report. I'm glad no one was injured. I love their high-tech outfits. In fact, I want one!
Funny, I was going to post about fire soon. I need a good picture of the completed building. The fire was just over a year ago; the repairs and done and it looks better than before. I'm waiting for a day when I'm in the location without rain!
Wonderful dramatic photos! I am glad no one was injured by the fire (but someone has lost their lovely apartment!)
Three Rivers Daily Photo
I'm glad no one was hurt! Hope there wasn't too much damage either.
I agree with Jacob on all accounts.
Excellent photo story & thank goodness no one was hurt!
& yes to be a fireman is a tremendous act of courage & service. God bless them.
I'm impressed VP - excellent documentary series! Seems that you always carry your camera:)
Hope no one was hurt!!
Great action shots. High drama.
Pity the poor people who have to clean up after the fire, smoke, water, and broken windows.
I enjoyed shooting the fire drill exercise at the monastery in Switzerland. The firemen went up on hook and ladder and "rescued" two nuns on strechers. (Hmm, maybe I should start a non-Israel blog for things like this.)
Hope you will have no more fires to photograph.
Worst part over for the firemen but still to come for the apartment owner.
It's a kind of documentary post, your pictures are great!
They are brave men!
Léia
Great action shots! You are a photo-journalist!
Wow you caught so action there! So glad nobody was inside! :)
Eek. Fire has got to be my worst fear as a homeowner. I'm glad no one was hurt.
Marvelous set of photos, though this is something I would never want to experience first hand.
Nice series of pictures! I'm glad no one was hurt. Those firemen are very brave!
what a documentary , happy end but fires are so dramatic most of the time , firemen do a great job !
@ Leif - Only pros here. When military service was compulsory I think it was possible to serve as fireman, but I'm not sure.
@ Jacob - You are always too optimist about my skills...
@ joo - I always carry the camera with me. Things happens...
@ Julie - You are right, I saw the apartment this morning: practically a black hole.
Oh, this does not look good. Someone is in for a nasty surprise. At least no one was home to get hurt!
... And the photojournalist was there!
No, no, no - so destructive, how horrible. Great photography though, and reminder to be mindful of indoor fires too. The perspecive in the 1st shot is great.
Wow! This is a news quality reportage. Livorno bravest look like star wars characters! very stylish! It is a dangerous profession.
No, the worst part is when the owners come home.
See, when you carry a camera, you can capture news. Great shots.
Cool shots!!!
Some good reporting here. Great news photos, glad no one was injured.
Agree with everyone here, this is quality reporting here. The last two photos look very dramatic, with the dark smoke and the people in action.
