Palio Marinaro

Palio Marinaro 2009, Livorno
The “Ovo Sodo” won its fourth “Palio Marinaro” in a row, leaving the second place to an angry “Venezia”, winner this year of the “Risiatori” and “Barontini” cups. The “Antignano” lost its “gozzo” and the “Borgo Cappuccini” regained its place in the ten rowers.Palio Marinaro 2009, LivornoThe “Palio” was disputed last Sunday, but having no photos of ours we had to secure a couple of shots to show you something of the race. Any appreciation for the photographic part has to be addressed to the authors of these images.
This is our first post from abroad, our annual transition from the Pentagon to the Hexagon happened this night.

Step aside Neptune, looks like Venus was ruling the outcome of this race. Wonderful shot of the happy crew. What boat were you on?

1. I wonder why they call themselves "the boiled egg"?
2. From the Pentagon to the Hexagon?
This is a mysterious post for me! :-)

What fun this must have been. Nice shots. I too don't understand from the Pentagon to the Hexagon. Isn't France the Hexagon??

Riddles... Well done to the authors, the photos are very good!

Congratulations to Ovo Sodo! Venezia shouldn't be too angry — they're already won two and should learn to share ;)

Like Sarretta, I am puzzled about Pentagon and Hexagon. What a mystery you have left us with! My only guess is that you're on a holiday?

Congratulation to The Boiled Egg! It might have been predicted before, but for me, seeing it in your previous post, lonely in the water, I can see it smiling at us now :).
Riddle, huh? The only clue (if it's even true) is you're far away from home. Somewhere in Miami, FL?

Enjoy, wherever you may be.

Hats off to the photographer(s). Applause for the rowers. And bon voyage to VP.

From our Pentagon (in Livorno) to the Hexagone (or la France): we are in Paris.
The colors of Benci-Centro, our quarter, are white and yellow, so it was derisively called 'boiled egg' and, at last, the nickname catched up.

I bet rowing those boats is harder than it looks.
I think you are refering to the "Pentagon of Buontalenti" and I imagine the hexagon is France. So bon voyage!

Oops I took too long to finish my post, but I was correct.:-)

Wonderful boat race photos! Wish I could have been there to watch the action!
Row, row, row your boat gently down the sea ......
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a spree!

"Ovo Sodo" means boiled egg? That is fascinating.

Love the pictures! Winning is everything for some, I guess, and losing is nothing...

None of this "It's the journey not the destination" philosophy for these guys!

Kudos to Bizzi/Trifiletti for the photos!

This sport is taken very seriously, isn't it?

Great captures. I like the first one in which the guys are obviously overjoyed with their achievement. This photo has captured it so well.

Ah, the angry “Venezia”. Someone ought to recite a bit of Vogon Poetry for them!
