Somebody is at work with a chainsaw in “Villa Maria”.I'm sure they are cutting only very sick trees.I am not a tree hugger, but it's always sad to see this in a park.
Yes, it's sad! Hope there's a good reason... A couple of years ago many trees were cut down around my house because their 'small flying white-haired seeds' were causing a lot of allergies on people in spring. It was heart breaking.
Yes it is sad to see any trees cut down---and I live in a logging area. So sad. But I do see Ivy on that tree and sometimes Ivy is invasive and can actually weaken trees so maybe that is one answer. MB

I too hope it is a sick tree. We only use fallen ones to burn in our woodstove.

It is sad, but if they are diseased, it's better to get them out now before they infect other trees and you see more of this sight. :(
Hopefully they will plant something new in its place.
It is very sad.
I echo everyones comments.

It's tough to watch such cutting. The trunk has the still-green clingy vines still stuck to it.
Poor JM too. Can they do that??
Yes, I hope they are sick too. I'm no tree hugger but I am like the little dog in Astérix. It's called Idéfix in French.
@ ciel - My brother and I were avid readers of Asterix, then my son followed the tradition.
We were no friends of the Romans then!
I have the same reaction.
I hope they cut only sick tree, but I'm not sure.
I'm that kind of nature person, I'm so sad! :(

Kind of weird to see that log with green ivy on it!
Now I feel at home.
