This is one of a few photos I shot from the panoramic terrace in Montenero, where we can see the northeast part of Livorno. About in the middle, from left to right, you can see the yellow cranes of the cargo port, the wooded area of Tombolo and, just above it, Marina di Pisa, at the mouth of the Arno river. Far away the imposing Apuan Alps.

Decay at San Marco
People keep talking about promotion of tourism as part of local economic development, but a look at the sorry state of Porta San Marco (Saint Mark Gate) and of many other historical landmarks is not encouraging.

Belforte, via Roma
A few weeks ago we read on its shutters that the Belforte Bookstore had moved to a new location in Via Roma. We have just visited the new shop, which is simply lovely: small, but creatively furnished and decorated.
Considered that it opened early last month the bookstore is understandably understocked, but all the important stuff is already on the shelves. Anyway, looking around you will not surely get bored.
There is also a small stage, a piano is coming soon, and the place also hosts local cultural events almost daily. We will see something more in a few days.

Theme Day: Ageing
The inspiration for this photo comes from a famous work of one of my favorite painters: “The Stages of Life” by Caspar David Friedrich. The moored sail ship is our old friend “Pogoria”.
