Combat Ape

I am not yet sure if it is a good idea to post this. Here is the still unmarked trial version of the combat-Ape, practically a self-propelled, three-wheeled, low cost missile launcher.It is cunningly disguised as a leisure vehicle for fishermen, but the aggressive silhouette and the military green livery, clearly tell another story.

Fisherman's Chores

Fisherman's chores are never done and, considering the footwear, even some acrobatic skills are needed.
Most of these fishing boats are moored in the “Pamiglione”, the oldest still existing part of the port of Livorno.Between mending nets and unloading the fish, someone found the time to do some laudry, hanging it up to dry on the boat. In background, the “Canaviglia” bastion of the “Fortezza Vecchia”.

We are back in Livorno, ready to get some fresh photos after so much canned goods...

Fisherman's Friend

No menthol lozenges involved here, and these friends are not disinterested. Every time I wander to the far side of the Elba or Capitaneria piers in the “Porto Mediceo”, I see these birds chirping and waiting just on the edge of the jetty.This is a favourite spot for fishermen and, now and then, the little birds get some bait throwed at them, just for fun or to keep them quiet. They eat the small worms voraciously, but this part I'm not going to illustrate here.

Few days ago, when the sun was still shining over Livorno, someone had found his place in the world.

Crab Catcher

It's a sunny but cold day in January and this man in waterproof gear is tirelessly wading through the shallow waters in front of the Terrazza Mascagni. He is fishing for crabs of a kind called favollo (warty crab), enticing the crustaceans out of their hidings with some bait at the end of a rod and deftly grabbing his prey as soon as it shows up. With care, because the little creatures are mean pinchers with their powerful claws.

Anglers in the Harbour

Every ship built in the former Orlando shipyard was launched in this basin. The street in the background is Scali Novi Lena and you can see on the left the building of the Nautical Institute of Livorno. And... this is Trillian's first experiment in B&W!
