Tavolara (A 5367)

The “Tavolara” (A 5367) is a navigational aid tender of the Italian Navy, launched in 1988.
The vessel of the Ponza Class is equipped with a crane and it is usually employed for the maintenance of the coastal signalling. She is also employed for other logistic activities as supplying water, fuel or other goods to naval ships or small islands. (Photos taken in April and May)

Quite a ship!
Wow! What a vessel!
As a volunteer activity, today I interviewed WWII veterans in a retirement home in St. Paul about their experiences in the military for a memoir to be published on our Veteran's Day on November 11. One of the most interesting and detailed stories was related by a man who was in the Navy, and I wonder what he would think of this ship!

With such a long coastline, Italy must need many navy ships. Thanks for explaining about this one.
I was in the Navy, but in Naval Air and based ashore, so don't know much about ships. But what I did learn is that these particular ships are so vitally important to many military mission. It's the people behind the lines who provide the necessities of life who can make a battle or a war successful or unsuccessful.
I like the angel you shot the first photo from. The ship has a timeless look to it to my eyes, perhaps because I don't know a lot about naval ships.
