“Talking” Statues

A few years ago we did a series of posts imagining the thoughts of our statues. Now the most important monuments in town are draped with banners of the workers of TRW, whose local plant is being closed with hundreds of layoffs.
Four Moors with a TRW banner, piazza Cavour, Livorno
“Livorno - Terni - Piombino, unico destino” (Livorno - Terni - Piombino, same fate)

Monument to Cavour with a TRW banner, piazza Cavour, Livorno
“Con noi muore Livorno e tutto attorno” (Livorno dies with us and [also dies] everything around)

I'd be putting up banners, too, in this situation. What do people do without jobs?

Very sad indeed.

The unfortunate workers have good champions in these statues.
Their signs make a much stronger impression than if there were on any old fence.
Heaven help them.

Very sad, unfortunately these are common scenes throughout the boot.

Too bad the statues don't have a happier story to tell... :(
