I thought of Chicago's South Side when I opened your post. Interesting that half of a house can be redeveloped, with the other left standing.

Typical, they squeezed one extra floor out of the same height, the older building's apartments having higher ceilings.

The other day I took a shot of a building that looks like the one back in the 60's. And the strange thing is that I love the façade... :-)
