Third Day without Water

Inscription on the monument to Ferdinand III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, piazza della Repubblica, Livorno
On the plinth of the monument to Ferdinando III, Grand Duke of Tuscany, in Piazza della Repubblica:

A Ferdinando III
auspice dell'opera
onde la città
ebbe ricco ristoro
di acque salubri
gratitudine pubblica
(To Ferdinand III
inspirer of the works
from which the city
received plentiful relief
of salubrious waters
public gratitude)

Queueing for water, piazza della Repubblica, Livorno
Yesterday, on the other side of the same square, longer lines to get some water, with the above mentioned monument in background.

I am becoming increasingly worried for the citizens of Livorno. An absence of fresh water can be very serious. Good luck, VP.

That's getting out of hand. I'm sure they are doing all they can though...

What cruel irony. The Duke would not be happy with your situation.
The photos in your newspaper links really show the muddy mess of the pipes. And in one, even the pigeons are hanging around the water tanker in the street. Oi ...

ciel - Let us say that they are doing what they are able to do. What they should have done from the start is to ask for help from someone more capable.

Three days now. I'm sure it feels a lot longer.

I second Dina regarding the irony. It's a clever post but I hope the problem will be solved soon. Three days without water is such a mess in everyone's daily life.

Three days without water? How is this possible??? I have not heard of an earthquake in Tuscany, recently ...

Good!
I read here that it has been solved!

Enjoy the water as well as the weekend!

Is it below their dignity to ask for outside help in such matters?

Dina - It would have been an admission of incomptence...
