Very interesting! This style of feature usually represents, leaves, plants, etc. and this one being a dragon is quite a surprise!

That's a very clever carving VP, you can see it is a dragon, but as Ciel points out if you look in another way the top part of the head does look like a dog's face...Excellent find.
