From the windows of the Istituto Mascagni, in the Gherardesca compound, you have an excellent view of the “campanile” (clock tower) of the church of “Sant'Andrea” (Saint Andrew).
The church was built in 1837 were a cemetery once was, just in front of the Cisternone. A project for “Sant'Andrea” renovation has been completed in 2002, funded by the church parishoners.
A postcard dated 1901 shows some pictoresque folks around, but not much has changed in the last hundred years: just few cars, a couple of dumpsters, some street lights and the occasional plane.See also: Sant'Andrea's Bell Tower - Half-Dome Fad

@ Chistopher - It is not easy to take photos inside our churches because they are open only for Mass. I'm still trying...
@ henny - It is a lot, but not much has changed of the rest. Some postcards are from my father's collection, some from a local library.
I love how beautifully you've re-captured the angle of the 1901 postcard and helped us see what time has done (and not done) to that little corner of your world.
The most striking thing about this for me is the tower. I'm also amazed at how just about nothing has changed over such a long period of time.
But what I don't understand is why there are no windows on the side, except for those half-windows up high. Seems it must be very dark inside.

Does the tower offer bells ringing once in a while? This kind of glance in the rear-mirror of history is interesting.

Clocktowers are my favorites - and this one is superb. I love your almost exact shot 108 years later. You are right, not much has changed.
Pasadena's St Andrew's church has a nice tower too.
