The “San Felipe”, a 166 meters container ship, enters the port of Livorno assisted by the tugboat “Porto di Livorno”.
About the bulbous bow Wikipedia says: the bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability.

Hai fotografato un particolare che mi ha sempre affascinato...amo i rimorchiatori che piccoli piccoli riescono a trasportare il gigante...
That's a picture I would have loved to take!
Tugboats have always amazed me...so little, but so strong!
I always wonder what the bulbous thing is in the front of the boats? Do you know?
Nice photographs.
Since 2 years ago, I lived in Thessaloniki. There I was born and lived all my life.
This photo is as if I am there: a port-city, every road leads to the sea. Big ships, coffee besides the sparkling (but dirty) waters...
Aaaaa, I feel homesick now!!
They never cease to amaze me.
Nice shot, Vogon Poet. I love to watch tugboats do their work...and that's most interesting about the "bulb."
Have a great weekend!
Bulbous bow have various kinds of size and shape which sometimes makes me think it might reduced the speed and eficiency of a ship. Ship resistance was one of my favorite subject at uni :).
love the tug boat. Looks a bit cheeky! Like - 'I'm in charge here!'
Tugboats are so adorable - never get tired of seeing them.
My dad used to vacation years agi in San Filipe in Baja California, Mexico on the Gulf of California side, before it was so developed. He loved to walk on the long empty beaches.
I'd like to watch the activity of a busy port...
Interesting scene!
Buon giorno! You have some lovely pictures of your city; I can visualize myself right there! Bravo! I'm new to CDP; I started EAGAN daily photo. Grazie - arreviderci! Regards from Minnesota, USA
