The Cathedral of San Francesco (Saint Francis), the “Duomo” of Livorno, stands in what is now “Piazza Grande”, at the center of the Pentagonal City devised by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti (1536-1608).Practically rebuilt after the last war, the Cathedral preserves many features of the original building, erected between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 17th Century by Alessandro Pieroni and Antonio Cantagallina.

Beautiful cathedral.
Fancy being called Buontalenti when you build such splendours !
His real name was Bernardo Delle Girandole, but he fancied himself, perhaps immodestly, as “Buontalenti” (literally well talented).
I like a church with clean, simple lines!
Fantastic Cathedral! Beautiful shot!
Léia :-)
Nothing fancy, but quite elegant. I'd love to see the inside...
...when you get a chance?
This is a beautiful cathedral with its simpel lines. Very Italian I think, or maybe I just have a picture inside of how I think an Italian church should look at. Very interesting post.
Beautiful bealding, very elegant!
Do you pray here? Count me in, Jacob.
The war damage to the church is heartbreaking.
