February's Theme Day

Container ship Tommi Ritscher, IMO 9333371, port of Livorno
February's theme should be the answer to this question: “If you had to leave forever the city from which you usually post, what would you miss most?” A knee-jerk answer would be: “nothing”, but on a second thought I opted for my favorite spot at the entrance of the port. By the way, this is the 255-meter container ship “Tommi Ritscher”, escorted by the tugs “Alessandro Neri” and “C.te Contini”.

An interesting choice.

It's the sky that most appeals to me in this shot. I expect a number of people are going with a favourite spot sort of choice for this theme.

I opted for my favourite spot on the water, too, VP.

The port, of course. And, as Michelle said before me, this particular scene has great color.

You have picked a ever changing, interesting place to see all the interesting ships sail past. Love the colors in this picture.

Water seems to be important in many blogger's "I would miss most" posts! This photo has luscious colours, VP.

I understand this choice so well VP, the harbour really is the life line to a port city.. one of my fav pastimes also.

I'm so glad you reconsidered and didn't really say "nothing."
You are so lucky to have a port to watch. :)

Great choice. This would make a beautiful oil painting.

I don't know a lot about your city but I have always enjoyed and appreciated your photos of the port and the water and the ships...like this huge container ship!

Who needs video games and cells when you have this scene.

I would never get tired of watching what goes on here. That ship is huge and I love the way the sky looks!

Here are three further suggestions, VP:

Sydney Harbour: A History" by Ian Hoskins (2009); "Colonial Ambitions: Foundations of Australian Democracy" by Peter Cochrane (2006); and, "The Colony: A History of Early Sydney" by Grace Karskens (2009.

You might also be interested in two novels by Thomas Keneally, "The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith" (1972), and "Bring Larks and Heroes" (1967).

I will copy this comment over onto your Livorno blog, too,
