It is that time of the year again, “Effetto Venezia” has begun. They said that this time there wes no money for it, but sadly they found it somehow.
This year's theme is “France” and this could be enough to diminish my unremitted love for that country. By the way, the colors of the French flag are upside down, and we'll see this quite often...So last year's Torquemada stage, the staircase of our town hall, is now dedicated to Nostradamus, strange guys feel at home there...

Parking Lot
A couple of years ago I posted some pictures of this derelict gas station. The pumps are finally gone now, but so is the tree.

Latin America
“Via Bosi”
“Via Grande”
“Via Gramsci”
Ernest Hemingway used to say “My mojito in La Bodeguita, my daiquiri in El Floridita”. He would have been happy in Livorno, because, like in Havana, we also have “La bodeguita”.

Flying Rats
This is a short walk at the “Chiesa degli Olandesi” (Dutch Church).I don't like pigeons, and this is an euphemism.Through broken windows the birds have invaded the old church. The derelict temple is now a huge pigeon house.Bird droppings are almost everywhere.

Modigliani in Paris
In the 15th arrondissement, not far from the Parc André Citroën, rue Modigliani is not an impressive street for Parisian standards. It has a nice fountain called “fontaine des Polypores” (Polypores fountain), also commonly known as Modigliani fountain. It is a 1983 work by the sculptor Jean-Yves Le Chevalier.

The Majesty of the Law
“Piazza Guerrazzi” without the “The Majesty of the Law”. Looking at the uniform in the old picture, the man was probably a soldier and not a policeman. We are again comparing a 1900 picture from the book “In Tuscany” with the same place today.

The Anchors of Venice
During the demolition of the old “cantina” of the Venezia quarter, one of its symbols, a pair of red and white crossed anchors, was left in the rubble for a while. The two anchors have now been restored on the facade of the new “cantina”.

LDP & VDP
This picture was taken far from Livorno, in the Île-de-France, but I can assure you that two Livornesi ate almost everything that was on that plate.
The second informal meeting between our blogs went far beyond the delicious cakes and Trillian and I were also treated with a personalized tour of Versailles with our friend cieldequimper of Versailles Daily Photo. Thank you ciel, again!

On a Bench
Last Sunday it was so hot that I wasn't even trying to go for a walk. This little guy in “Piazza della Vittoria” wasn't very happy either, but I am not sure if it was about the weather or something else.

Scali Cialdini
The street called “Scali Cialdini” follows the “Canale dei Francesi” to which you get easy access through a sloping cobbled pavement with brick walls reaching the canal almost at water level. Not far, you can see the compass rose described in another post.
