Cinema Odeon

Car park, former Odeon movie theatre, LivornoThe “Cinema Odeon” was one of the best movie theaters in town: I saw “Jaws” there and a few others movies of the time. Now only the front hall of the cinema still exists, the rest was replaced by a multi-level car park.Car park, former Odeon movie theatre, LivornoThe cost of the structure is already around 20 million Euro and to make this eyesore even more conspicous it has been painted blue. The parking garage borders with the Old English Cemetery and the Waldensian church.

Progress? Sometimes I wonder.

Unfortunately, in many parts of the world I have seen this phenomenon. We are more and more by day, we need space to expand ourselves and this is done on behalf of the old good things we know...Sad!

I'm sad to learn that this kind of thing also happens in Italy...so many people and no place to park...the ambiance of the old goes away to make way for a parking garage! The blue does rather stand out doesn't it!

Yet another parking garage....not so great. And that wild looking blue at that!

They did this to my favorite movie theater in Phoenix just before I moved here.

Odeon--hey, I know that word from archaeology in Israel!
If only the ancient Roman builders could see what your modern Odeon is and was used for.

Hmmmm.... not sure what to say about this. It does look extremely ug and does not seem to fit with the surroundings.

Ahh it's a pity.In Brazil it happens as well but in most cases the old cinemas are today housing some religion temple and so on.

The Cinema Odeon in Lisbon, where I watched many movies in my youth, is falling apart. I don't know how it looks now as I haven't been in that street for a long time. It's a shame!
