A detail of the closed gate of the New English Cemetery in Livorno. We have already seen the Old English Cemetery, now we will get a glimpse of the relatively newer burial ground, used mostly in the second half of the 19th century. The old cemetery was built just beyond the city walls of the time. The new one was planned just outside the more recent Leopoldine Wall, in “Via Pera”, not far from the San Marco Gate.A picture of the cemetery taken from outside the gate, it is not an easy place to visit.

This place looks very interesting, VP! I like to visit this kind of cemetery.
These are gorgeous VP. Very nice shots.
A place where time passes by with a different pace indeed.
Please have a good week ahead.

I love that first shot with the detail of the iron work.
I'm still stuck at the idea that there were so many English in Livorno that they needed both an old and a new cemetary. (Really like the first photo.)
Interesting places to explore!
I'm sure you'll find a way of going inside these gorgeous gates.
I like to visit cemetaries--always interesting. specially old ones. Your new cemetary would be our old one. Specially out west here. MB
Your photos are very atmospheric.
Who holds the key?
And you took great pictures from the gate!
I'm also enchanted by the first one, the detail. It's wonderful!

Beautiful detail in the first photo! The interior looks so serene and pretty, at least through the gate!
I love old cemeteries and this one looks so interesting!
It looks like it could be interesting inside, if rather bleak. The top photo is a nice detail, reminding me of a gate shot I botched in Astoria. I need to go back.
Livorno is a real international place.. I noticed it on the map lately.. :)
Looks like a very interesting place to explore!
Beautiful shots, VP. The top composition is fantastic!
I like the detail in the top photo!
The detail on the top photo makes a very attractive photo!
It's too bad you couldn't get through that lovely gate. I'd like to see more of this New English Cemetery. They are great places to wander around in peace and wonder about past lives. I liked your Old EC post too.
