After a few months the skeleton of a future footbridge marks the point where the new canal, now flooded, joins the older one.The part of the canal toward the sea is still under construction and almost dry.In this point the new dig will join the existing system of canals, just where the historical Venice quarter's “cantina” (rowing club) was. The boat sheds are being torn down to make room for the canal.

Such a beautiful and historic city. With such romantic notions.
i love Venice. it's such a romantic and beautiful place to stroll around.
Bet it will look beautiful after all the work is completed.
It will be fun to see it when it's done. I'm sure you'll show us! Funny to think I can see a canal project taking shape that far away.
wow this is so very interesting. As Tapirgirl said--amazing to see this going on so far away.

Lots of activity there VP.
Too bad the rowing club is evicted.
Nice to watch the construction of little bridges.
This all kind of reminds me of the old Israeli classic movie "Blaumilch Canal" in which a lunatic digs a 30 meter canal in Tel Aviv

Did I understood? This is a channel in Livorno, called Venice. Is it correct? I like the last photo, with all those boats looking as shipwrecked on a shore...
So where are the boat sheds going?
@ Traveling Hawk - “Venezia Nuova”, or New Venice, is the name of a whole quarter in Livorno, crossed by canals called “fossi”.
There are going to be some interesting "before and after" shots with this canal.
People there are working and working a lot!
Impressive that two last pictures, and those boats without water, stuck for a while there!
Have a nice week,
Léia
Exciting to see how much progress has been made.
The project is moving forward!
So much progress! That's great ;-)
Very interesting! Do the works continue in the winter, or will they have a break?
Thanks VP for the explanation.
VP, this may be a dumb question, but what it the functional purpose of the new canal for this area in Livorno?
@ ciel - No idea at the moment, I'll ask around.
@ JM - They are working now, but money for the project is running out...
@ Francisca - Thousands of people are asking the same question here!
