The “Voyager of the Seas” is the namesake of Voyager-class ships, 300 meter cruise ships capable of handling something like three thousands passengers operated by Royal Caribbean International. Most of these ships spend the winter sailing four or five night cruises from Florida and the summer sailing the Mediterranean. As for almost any other cruise ship, Livorno is seen only as a port of call, with Florence, or even Pisa, as the real destinations for a day trip: Download Port & Shopping Map.

These are great shots of the ship. Too bad that cruises don't really stop at Livorno.
We will be on this ship in 2011....Barb
Have you ever taken a cruise on such a ship? We have not. Frankly, they sound boring. And that's especially true if they don't really stop at Livorno.
Your photos are so good, though...they give one a real sense of the massiveness of this sea-going hulk!
Hi, Trillian! Thanks again for your comments! What are you up to these days, other than trying to keep VP in line? ;-)
Very interesting details here. Thanks, because I doubt if I will ever be able to get near a cruise ship. I take it that second photo are the portholes of the most expensive cabins?
Sounds like someone has to seriously re-conceptualize Effetto Venezia and turn it into a real cultural event so Livorno becomes a destination for these cruises. Unless you don't want that?
How impressive a sight. Amazing what humankind is able to create. Please have a good Tuesday.
These shots make an already impressive ship even more impressive.
But after visiting your link to the ship's insides, I still think the Enotria is more my kind of ship.
I really like your shots. But spending time on there with 2999 other people and NOT even making it to a Prada shop after such a long travel by land to Florence... ;-))
Oh LOL!
Honey... where was that city where we took the train from the cruise ship? Wasn't there a nice bridge there? Ah what's the name again? Must be Rome... :-)
Oh my that is a HUGE thing. I cannot imagine being beside it. Super pics though. MB
Ha, Ciel - you are a bit snappy today:)
Love the photos VP!
Great day to everyone:)
Too huge for me !!
@ Hilda - Livorno can't compete with Florence or even Pisa, anyway it would be nice for the few turists remaining in Livorno to find the Fortezza Nuova open.
It is closed since January 2009 and could be fixed for a fraction of the money wasted for Effetto Venezia.
Ah! We sailed on her in 2004 and her sister ship Explorer of the Seas in June to the Caribbean. What a ship!
I've seen her in port more times than I can count.
Great shots, VP, even if I hope never to step into one of these. I have spoken to retailers in Dubrovnik whose livelihood depend on these massive cruise ships stopping there, and their sentiments were definitely of the love/hate variety. I was just thrilled I arrived after the cruise ships were on their way out.
VP, these are the most amazing ship detail shots I've ever seen! Fantastic compositions, well done!
I have never cruised the Mediterranean. But I do enjoy cruises in the caribbean. It's a relaxing way to vacation.
The Voyager and Explorer are many things but if you have sailed on one 'boring' will NOT be a part of your vocabulary. LOVE, yes! Hate? Are they crazy???
Never say never. I reluctantly went a my first cruise with family about 11 years ago...and I do mean reluctantly. Wow, what an adventure. We've been on three others since then and I find them to be perfect vacations. The millions of people all find their little daily niches and it doesn't feel that crowded once folks settle in. It is NEVER boring, they offer so much for you to do, whether at port or at sea. I highly recommend this type of a trip.
I have actually been on the Voyager of the Seas when she went to the Caribbean from New Jersey. Love it.
Impressive ship, but cruises have never appealed to me. I like how you caught the plane flying overhead in the first picture!
When we were visiting Oslo, I saw two big ships like this one.Besides I'm always worried about water ( fool thing I know...) but I would like to try someday a cruise.Hmmm maybe someday!
This ship is massive and beautiful!
Elegant way of life!
hugs
Léia
When we were in Hawaii, we overheard a young woman telling a guy who was hitting on her about the cruise she was on. They were going to stop in "some little town" and then go on to Seattle. Of course, you know that nameless little town.
It almost looks like a building in the first photo! Lovely details :-)
