Livorno Airport

Delta Air Lines Boeing-767, LivornoThere are normative issues with this post, I tried to discuss them with my lawyer but she said me that she isn't a lawyer yet and is busy with her thesis. This is a piece of american soil flying over Livorno, a little north of Tweetie on the “Moby Vincent”. Actually it is a Boeing-767 safely inside its approach route to Pisa airport, well within the borders of Livorno proper, so I can post this photo. The Delta Air Lines non-stop flight from Pisa to New York is the easiest way to reach the States from Tuscany, or the other way around. The first time we took it, we found ourselves in Ireland, but this is another story...Galileo Galilei International Airport, PisaThe “Galileo Galilei” International Airport is incidentally located in Pisa, because otherwise we wouldn't have enough parking space for our scooters, but it is a mere 20 kilometers from Livorno.Galileo Galilei International Airport, PisaPisans are not entirely confident with the airport itself, so they have placed scores of strange statues around it. Their function is to protect them from the planes, the tourists and, above all, from the cohorts of Livornesi always swarming the “Galilei”.

This is too funny! I love the simple image of the plane in the first photo. Your descriptions made it that much better :)

I wonder what issues there could be. Anyway... it's a lovely airport, the building is great. Yes, it is, it doesn't look like an airport at all. Over here, they would have clipped all the green lest someone should hide a bomb in it. Even the strange statues are fun. And there's a Puccini festival which makes it even better. Now you need to show us (untidy) rows of Vespas. ;-)
Time before last I flew out to Seattle, I ended up in Heathrow for a while! ;-) A problem with a navigational instrument on an Air France Airbus. With hindsight, I am *very* glad we stopped at Heathrow.

@ ciel - My 'issue' was if a plane over Livorno could be posted as a photo of Livorno...
Maybe the AF 'navigational instrument' was a Pitot tube, so you are right to be glad!

Delta flying to Pisa? I didn't know. Nice airport though! I will probably come through it in October, if things go accordingly to plan. Weekend in Italy, with my wife (who has never been there).

This must be the prettiest and most charming airport I have ever seen! I love the funky patterns on the wall, all the flowers and the alien creatures!

You have to tell us the Ireland story one of these days.

I'm with the others as to the airport being lovely! All shots are great and it's a funny post when we read your descriptons! :-)

Well, you've got me laughing out loud this morning!

I think your attorney friend has got you figured out!

Delightful photos and commentary, VP. You made my day. This is one of those posts that I'll come back to and look at and read again!

Wow! Not only you got perfect airplane silhouette - but we can read every letter on Delta's logo! Very impressive! Statues remind me a bit about those on Easter Island :) Only these are more round. After all - "... is round and turning" :)

I love airplanes. I love to ride in them and look at them in the air. I've always thought they are magic. I'm actually writing this in a lounge at O'Hare. In a few days an airplane will take me from Chicago to Delhi without my feet touching the ground. It's still astounding to me.

I've been through the Pisa airport, flying BA to London to connect to American Airlines. We thought it was quite nice.

This looks like a very pretty airport! ;-)
Can light aircraft land there??

(A bit of giggling here as well, upon reading this...)

Yep, somewhat strange these statues but they do match the sunlight well and I wouldn't mind exploring them.

Incidentally, “Galileo Galilei” is a lovely name for an airport. Turns out we do live in an age of enlightenment, after all!

Ouch! A legal brush-off :)!
Very funny and very clever text - are those statues of giant bugs??
The airport is really pretty. The plants are amazing and I like the clock too.
So did you get to NY eventually?
I am totally bummed that I was no longer anywhere near Rye when your question on Cafe Livorno came. It would of been a hoot to get a photo of it. (I was there only on the 13th & 14th of Aug.) I found it on Google Street View, but nowhere near where Google said it was.
I took a short video driving down Purchase St., and I can see the building, but not the sign.

I'm with Hilda and the others. I might come to this airport for a picnic it's so lovely. Is it very busy?

@ Rob - If it's your wife first time you won't waste time with Livorno, but let me know when you'll be around.
@ Hilda - A passenger was dying for too much pills and alcohol. Doc on board kept her on oxygen and IV solutions at no avails. Captain decided over the Atlantic to go back to Shannon, Ireland.
@ Gunn White - I don't think so.
@ richard - You're right. I like it!
@ Tash - Three hours late.
@ brattcat - Tiny for US standards, but the main airport in Tuscany, Florence is a joke. Very busy during summer months, lots of low cost flight all the year.

It's very nice to see the airport so decorated as it is, quite unusual I think, but makes it interesting! And I guess airports in general are not what you would call attractive...
God bless you!

Hahaha I gather those statues aren't very successful at keeping you guys away, eh?

Love the airport building, it looks so different!
