Moby Tommy

Moby Tommy ferry, IMO 92213110, LivornoAfter so many months spent in “flying gulls” practice, it is quite easy to shoot a ferry: huge, clearly visible and firmly tied to several heavy bollards. Feeling overconfident, I tried a riskier move: to catch the “Moby Tommy” while leaving port at a couple of knots.Moby Tommy ferry, IMO 92213110, LivornoThe “Moby Tommy” is one of the Moby Lines cruiseferries linking Livorno with Olbia, in Sardinia. Their Looney Tunes liveries never cease to amaze me.

that must really be a sight in person! The cartoon is so well done, you'll never catch Tweety bird.

I love these things; colorful and fun! After the gulls, photographing this big ol' ship should have been a snap (so to speak)...

Re: Paree and Notre Dame. You know me too well!

I think the cat will catch the birdie . . . .

I'm glad to see they don't take themselves too seriously. What a happy sight.

Certainly hard to miss in the harbor or at sea.

I'm jumping on right behind Saretta.

Why do they use Tom & Jerry cartoons on a ferry named Moby? More interestingly, why use a foreign (American) cartoon?

It's an interesting boat, nonetheless.

We've been dreaming of cruising...

I wish they sailed into our ports in Florida. They are just so much fun to look at. The artists seem to have a ton of freedom to decorate these ships to the max. (They are much easier than the birds...I shot a bunch of frames yesterday to get a few good images. What a pain...They just don't cooperate do they?)

I wonder how much they paid (or are getting paid) to use the looney toons images.

I wish Sylvester would finally catch and eat Tweety Bird. That must have taken lots of paint.

It seems like a very strange sight to see. :-)

Very cute decoration. Fresh - made me smile - love cartoons!

I'm with Ming(tm) on this one. Why use an overseas cartoon? How does that boost the trademark of domestic tourism?

Certainly eye-catching though!

@ Ming & Per - I think they call it 'rebranding': the company expanded much in the late 90's and probably wished to forget the Moby Prince disaster here in Livorno. They started the Looney Tunes thing around 2002, don't think ever considered something different. Few minor ferries are painted with Mordillo characters.

I wonder if they paid rights - or may be it is an advertisement of some kind. It may work on tourists. When I took my kids to Bulgaria, where I am from - every time they saw McDonalds it was a nightmare because they refused to have any other food. I was so mad - Big Mac caused me few tantrums - I mean - for real - all the yummy real food around - and those boys scream of French Fries!
To answer you question - the flowers are real - I just exchanged the green with blue because the whole thing reminded me about a spark in a dark :)

Anyone who takes photos and writes as well and interestingly as you do cannot be too old for statement t-shirts. That's my humble opinion!
