Rio de Janeiro
Last Sunday, when I saw the container ship “Rio de Janeiro” leaving port, it was raining and I was quite far away.
As usual, the 286-meter passing ship dwarfed the pilot boat.

Princimar Truth
It was the last day of 2014: the 274-meter oil tanker “Princimar Truth” had already left the port, still escorted by two tugs, and a pilot boat was coming along
The two pilots on board had to climb down to their boat using a Jacob's ladder for the lower part of their descent.

Pilots at Work
A busy day for the pilots of the port of Livorno: it is late afternoon and three cruise ships are leaving within minutes, with also ferries and cargo ships coming and going.
Twenty minutes later the 291-meter “Ventura” is already outside the port, but we can still see the pilot.
The 239-meter “Riviera” is still moored inside the Porto Mediceo, but the pilots are already on board.

Sardinia Regina
The “Sardinia Regina” is leaving the “Porto Mediceo” escorted by a pilot boat. I like the shape of this ferry because it is like a scaled-down version of an old-fashioned cruise ship. She was built as “Visby” for a Swedish owner in 1972 at the Jozo Lozovina-Mosor Shipyard in Trogir, Croatia (Yugoslavia then). In the 1980s she was back in the Mediterranean, soon joined by her sister ship, the “Corsica Victoria”.Search labels: ferry

Pink Sky
I took this picture last February and forgot about it. It shows the entrance of the port, with the pilot boats and the watch tower of the “Avvisatore”, just before the sun rises.
