A relatively modern tower, built probably in the 1860s, during the works for the “Darsena Nuova”. There were two, one for each side of the swing bridge, but only this one survived the Second World War.
The same tower and the old swing bridge in a postcard of the first years of the 19th century.

Great. I like seeing the structures today and how they looked in the past. I am planning some comparisons using postcards, too, an idea borrowed from you.

I'll bet it was grand in the past. Nice illustration.
Jack - ... and I will be borrowing your out-of-jurisdiction idea for some posts!
I really like the old postcard. I wonder if the door was green already.
Bella anche se recente, è pur sempre vecchiotta! Ciao, Arianna
Always fun to see these comparisons.
The hammer and sickle graffiti came only later.
I like these old postcards, and the comparisons are always useful, to see what we managed to preserve...
A well-preserved monument!
