The plaque of “Via del Monte d'Oro” (Street of the Mount of Gold) looks quite new but the strange name, a heritage from an old local inn, was already estabilished in 1735. Then it briefly became “Via delle Stalle” (Street of the Stables) for the presence of a cavalry detachment. The narrow street flanking the Chamber of Commerce has recently regained its historical name, while many of the old buildings were restored a few years ago.On a small slab of eroded sandstone is still visible the number of the building as it was in the Medicean city, when numbers were given for the quarter and not for the single street.

The top sign is very sophisticated in its style. I wish that format were used here.

What an interesting piece of history! I like the original name!
I love the door in the middle photo, and the number in the last, and what a lovely name for the street!
Yay for restoration!
Interesting, the old system of numbering.
A pleasing doorway here.
'The numbers were given by the quarter' - how interesting! I wonder how it was here... Have to find out now. :-)
Did the ancient owners of the inn make a ton of money, or was it wishful thinking? I wonder. Wishing you a mountain of gold!
Wonderful door frame. Very artistic.
It's good to hear that so much restoration is going on in your city!
