Livornesi have recently discovered some interest in our national flag, usually displayed only in occasion of the Football World Cup matches. Some of them are so unfamiliar with the device that they often hang it backwards. The veg stall owner got it right twice, but we can't say the same of who hung the flag from that window.

Great capture VP.
Great observation skills here VP.
So happy the veg stall owner got it right twice...great shots!
Somehow reminded me of 'turning the inside out'. May you all have a good Wednesday.
Thank you for the inspiration.

Did you at least pick up some fresh veggies?
The American flag is flown often in the USA, but people get confused when it is hung vertically. (The field of stars is supposed to be on the left as seen by viewers when hung vertically.)
That's an important detail to get correct! Respect the flags!
I can always count on your blog for a laugh! Love your commentary on people not being able to hang the flag properly. :)
PS: As I know you like ships, you might enjoy this look at an old model.

Interesting and also strange. Strange that people don't know the proper way to fly/hang the flag.
Even in the US there is a right and wrong way as Jack said. MB
Good point. But at least you can't hang your flag upside down. Flying the Stars and Stripes upside down is a major no-no.
:-)))
It's such a beautiful flag! You can't blame them for hanging it...hopefully most people get it right though ;D
Same here. LOL! If you want to see Portuguese flags everywhere come here during Football World/Euro Cup matches.
We are probably one of few nations who rather shyly hangs its flags:)
I love the stalls!
A bit embarrassing I think!
Happy 150th, by the way!
I like the ITALIAN colors. Make me smile when I see the new Fiat 500 out in the traffic, and decorated in the Italian colors.... The "Bambino" car!:)
I also have an old Italian mug, bought at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, after an Italian art exhibition there, Nice graphic design on the mug in the 3 colors.
I see it is easy to forget the way the colors should go...
Here I guess some might have said NO to have our flag used as a cover/decoration and hanging DOWN in to rain and mud on the street.
