Ciao VP...This is history in a photograph...and the reflection is excellent. How old is this struture? Is all of the masonry original or do I see possible repairs...hits that it took from cannon or mortar? And the huge crack from top to bottom...possibly/probably from settling in the water. I'm sure Livorno was defended magnificently from this fort!

@ Theanne - I have already posted many times about the fortress and to avoid boring repetitions I usually put in the text some links to the older posts.
In this case click on 'Capitana' and 'Fortezza Vecchia' and you will get a dozen posts with the history of the fortress.
The several hundred years old bastion succumbed only in the last war to some Allied bombs hitting German ammunitions stored inside.
