Porta del Duca

Porta del Duca, Fortezza VecchiaThe main gate of the fortress, with a massive arch in stone of Vada, is adjacent to the “Ampolletta” bastion, which offers better cover and protection.Porta del Duca, Fortezza VecchiaOnce called “Porta del Duca” (Duke's Gate), a marble coat of arms still stands above the arch.Porta del Duca, Fortezza VecchiaBarely legible now on the plaque below: “Sotto una Fede et Legge un Signor solo” (Under one Faith and Law, one Lord) the motto of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.Porta del Duca, Fortezza VecchiaBeyond the gate we can already see the courtyard of the guards.

  6. There is so much of interest here: the nooks and crannies, the contrast of the white stone with red brick, the lovely marble coat of arms, the plants growing out from the crumbling bricks, the promise of beyond the gate... Nice series, VP. Looks like you took this late in an afternoon; the arm sun glows beyond the gate.

  13. After the King's Landing, the Duke's Gate. Logical, my dear Captain. Such a shame it seems to be so derelict. Has it's charm as well, e vero.
