After so many months spent in “flying gulls” practice, it is quite easy to shoot a ferry: huge, clearly visible and firmly tied to several heavy bollards. Feeling overconfident, I tried a riskier move: to catch the “Moby Tommy” while leaving port at a couple of knots.
The “Moby Tommy” is one of the Moby Lines cruiseferries linking Livorno with Olbia, in Sardinia. Their Looney Tunes liveries never cease to amaze me.Search labels: Moby - ferry

ReplyDeleteI wish they sailed into our ports in Florida. They are just so much fun to look at. The artists seem to have a ton of freedom to decorate these ships to the max. (They are much easier than the birds...I shot a bunch of frames yesterday to get a few good images. What a pain...They just don't cooperate do they?)

@ Ming & Per - I think they call it 'rebranding': the company expanded much in the late 90's and probably wished to forget the Moby Prince disaster here in Livorno. They started the Looney Tunes thing around 2002, don't think ever considered something different. Few minor ferries are painted with Mordillo characters.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they paid rights - or may be it is an advertisement of some kind. It may work on tourists. When I took my kids to Bulgaria, where I am from - every time they saw McDonalds it was a nightmare because they refused to have any other food. I was so mad - Big Mac caused me few tantrums - I mean - for real - all the yummy real food around - and those boys scream of French Fries!

Anyone who takes photos and writes as well and interestingly as you do cannot be too old for statement t-shirts. That's my humble opinion!
