On next December 21st our blog will be ten years old: I would never have thought it would last so long and I am still surprised at my perseverance. It is now time to end it: I will post my last photo on December 31, just to complete the year. There will be time to thank everybody: readers, followers, friends, and fellow bloggers.

Amerigo Vespucci, Canary Wharf

There are many places named after navigators around Canary Wharf, in London, but this restaurant seems genuinely more inspired by our famous sail ship than by the real Amerigo Vespucci. You can find this place near Cabot Square, down Cubit steps, on Mackenzie Walk. (Photo taken in September 2014) Ci sono diversi posti con nomi di navigatori a Canary Wharf a Londra, ma questo sembra genuinamente più ispirato al nostro famoso veliero che al reale Amerigo Vespucci. The Blue Hut

You can see this stall on the water side of our Mercato del Pesce (Fish Market), on Scali delle Ancore.
It stands between the slightly faded Blue Whale and a nearby restaurant, which specializes in seafood.

Pig and Sauce

“Sugo” may be gravy or sauce in Italian, but I do not like it much as a name for a restaurant.

“La Cravatta del Maiale” (The Necktie of the Pig) in via Palestro. “It suits him like a necktie to a pig”, we usually say this of something elegant on someone completely not.

L'Ora d'Aria

A curious name for this restaurant in Via dei Bagnetti. “L'Ora d'Aria” would be literally the hour of air, or the time an inmate spends out of his cell, usually in the yard of a prison. The building of the “Domenicani” (Blackfriars), a former prison, is just across the street.

A sporting club called “Colosseum” would certainly train amateur gladiators. They probably eat at the nearby “L'Ora d'Aria”.

The “Fosso Reale” (Royal Canal) was originally a moat of sorts surrounding the older part of Livorno. “Al Fosso Reale”, is a restaurant on the Scali delle Cantine, facing the “Fortezza Nuova” where the canal forms a wider basin. They promise you the lost flavors and the smells of the Tuscan cooking.

Last year the same guys built a Moulin Rouge around a window to celebrate France, now they have put a temple-like facade on their front door to honor Greece. By the way, the name of the place, “La volpe e l'uva” (The Fox and the Grapes), comes from one of the most famous Aesop's fables.

“La Toscana” Restaurant

A 1909 postcard advertising the hotel restaurant “La Toscana”, owned by a Attilio Carpignani. It was on the corner of “Via Greca” with “Piazza Colonnella”, where now stands one of the Sea Monsters fountains.The interior of the restaurant: you can easily recognize the arched French doors of the above picture.
