A Horror in Plain View

New annex, Scoglio della Regina, Livorno
The brilliant minds that are shaping the Livorno of the future have built an annex to the historic building of the “Scoglio della Regina” that is the definition itself of “eyesore”, at the cost of seven million euro.

Not far, just next to the Terrazza Mascagni, we already have an aquarium that looks like a supermax: so the “penitentiary” fad is becoming the norm for our lungomare.

  1. As it stands now, very 1970's. Perhaps it will look better if they bring in a master plaster expert to coat the exterior and then paint it that lovely classical yellow! Do you know what the plans are?

  3. I could not agree with you more. What sort of architect would design an addition which has no soul or grace? Your town is beautiful, but this is not.

  4. There's a term in English for that: facepalm. This seems to apply.

  7. Prison, penitentiary, jail ... they all fit this unhappy place. Your politicians sound very much like ours!

  8. Well if they had built it the same height, added a roof like the existing one, it could have worked... I do hope they'll paint it yellow with trompe-l’œil green shutters...
