Without Water

Livorno, a city of 160,000, is without running water since yesterday. A control unit at the local utility was allegedly struck by a lightning during a storm last night. They probably have never heard of the interesting contraption invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1749. Schools will be closed today and we will be on the dry side at least until the late afternoon.

    Wow! I don't think I've every heard of a city's water works being knocked out by lightning. I'd be interested in knowing more as information becomes available.

    Oi no!
    It's shocking to realize how fragile our essential services are.
    Maybe they can move the nice old fountain to the roof of the utility place as a lightning rod? ;)

    May the good citizens of Livorno not suffer for too long.

    Revrunner - You are right, the story of the lightning covered only a major break-up in one of the main supplying water to Livorno.
