This
mascaron was once placed above a public fountain on a corner of the “Palazzo Pretorio”, in what is now Piazza Grande. After a make over of the building in the late 19th century, the grotesque relief was moved to a new location, inside a man-made grotto in the
Parterre public gardens.

Fascinating comparison. The post card is dated 3 years before my father was born.
ReplyDeleteNot for the positive, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteNice to see the comparison through time.
ReplyDeleteI really like that old postcard.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the posing man is holding up, a sign, a message?
ReplyDeleteDina - I thought he was holding a folded newspaper, but you may be right...
ReplyDeleteSo interesting to see the differences, it seems to be much more 'protected' now, a sign of the times oui!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that is has to be caged...
ReplyDeleteThese man-made rock grottos are so typical of the good old days.
ReplyDeleteToo bad it has to be behind bars nowadays. Beautiful before. MB

It's so sad-looking today, and so romantic on the card.
