This collapsed roof was the first entry of
Urban Blight, posted last year in April. This building was once the renowned movie theater “Moderno”, whose entrance was directly on our main street, “Via Grande”. All these pictures were taken from the rear window of an apartment in “Via Grande”.
It seems that the only hope for this derelict building is to become a parking, a quite common fate for our former cinemas.

How sad VP.
ReplyDeleteThat is distressing, VP. It happens too often.
ReplyDeletewhere are you photographing this from...to see the roof from overhead?
ReplyDeleteI wonder where you were at too!
ReplyDeleteThat roof is not getting any better VP. what a shame to let the cinema go. O love little movie theatres.
ReplyDeleteI guess most people don't see it from your angle and so it is not uppermost in their mind.
ReplyDeleteThe decay makes me wonder how your Dutch church is faring.
All the photos, old and new, were taken from the rear window of an apartment in “Via Grande”.
ReplyDeleteI hope they will rebuild the theatre building.
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no not a parking. A garden or something else if it can't be a cinema but not a parking lot.
ReplyDelete... but life moves on.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad commentary on the way things change so quickly in the modern world, especially with the rapid advancement of technology. When you can watch movies on the internet at home, the theater becomes outdated. Still, it is a shame to let these places go to waste.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame when old buildings are left to deteriorate year after year.

It's really sad when something turns into a parking lot. I kind of think this roof is very artistic. Let's keep it and see how it ends up in another year :D
ReplyDeleteIsn't it revolting to see old theaters in such a state?! Especially when you know they will be torn down sooner or later instead of being restored. I have to check what's going on with two or three of these in Lisbon.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame.
ReplyDeleteso sad...
