This post brings to mind the proverb "Still waters run deep," meaning that a person who says very little often has a very thoughtful, interesting, and complicated personality.
Ciao VP...This is history in a photograph...and the reflection is excellent. How old is this struture? Is all of the masonry original or do I see possible repairs...hits that it took from cannon or mortar? And the huge crack from top to bottom...possibly/probably from settling in the water. I'm sure Livorno was defended magnificently from this fort!
@ Theanne - I have already posted many times about the fortress and to avoid boring repetitions I usually put in the text some links to the older posts. In this case click on 'Capitana' and 'Fortezza Vecchia' and you will get a dozen posts with the history of the fortress. The several hundred years old bastion succumbed only in the last war to some Allied bombs hitting German ammunitions stored inside.
Excellent capture with that reflection.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beauty, VP.
ReplyDeleteA cornerstone, stronger than time.
